Love photography? If so, you are in luck! Now on display at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is In Conversation: Will Wilson and Edward Curtis. This focus exhibition complements the temporary exhibition Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now. Check it out this Friday, January 18th, at the museum.
In Conversation: Will Wilson and Edward Curtis shines a spotlight on the work of each photographer. The display will feature work by contemporary photographer Will Wilson, who presents an authentic, twenty-first century depiction of Indigenous culture through his photography. He has even allowed his subjects to choose the pose, clothing, props, and context of each photograph. This exhibition will also feature photographs from Edward Curtis, who traveled throughout the western United States between 1907 and 1930 to photograph traditions and cultures of Native American peoples.
The photographs of Wilson and Curtis in conversation offer a chance to see different depictions of Native peoples and to think critically about how they have been portrayed in photography over the past century. As you enjoy the exhibit, consider the differences in how people of Native American heritage have been photographed over time.
Enjoy a world-class collection of American art and this extraordinary exhibit when you visit Crystal Bridges this Friday. The museum opens at 11:00 a.m. and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. This exhibition is free to view.
